Parliament Prepares for Key Debate on 'Operation Sindoor'

New Delhi: As the Parliament gears up for a significant discussion on 'Operation Sindoor', Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, drew an intriguing comparison to the Ramayan, linking India's military actions against Pakistan-sponsored terrorism to the destruction of Lanka.

Rijiju highlighted that the consequences faced by terror camps were akin to those experienced by Lanka when boundaries were crossed.

In a post on X, he stated, "The discussion on 'Operation Sindoor' starts today. Just as Ravan crossed the Lakshman Rekha and Lanka was set ablaze, when Pakistan overstepped India's red lines, their terrorist camps faced similar repercussions!"

The Parliament is set for what many anticipate will be a pivotal moment during the Monsoon Session, initiating a lengthy 16-hour debate regarding the government's response to the Pahalgam terror incident and the broader implications of 'Operation Sindoor'.

The operation is being characterized as a vital military and diplomatic strategy aimed at countering cross-border terrorism.

The initial week of the Monsoon Session faced numerous interruptions, largely due to debates over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar and other contentious issues raised by the Opposition.

However, after reaching a consensus, Minister Rijiju announced on July 25 that discussions on national security would commence in the Lok Sabha on Monday and continue in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is set to kick off the debate, outlining the government's stance on the goals and results of 'Operation Sindoor'.

He will be accompanied by Home Minister Amit Shah and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, who are expected to present the government's perspective on the Pahalgam terror attack and India's subsequent military responses.

Notable BJP MPs, including Anurag Thakur and Nishikant Dubey, will also contribute to the discussion, reinforcing the government's position.

On the Opposition side, Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, along with Rajya Sabha LoP Mallikarjun Kharge, are anticipated to spearhead the counter-arguments.

They will be joined by Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav and other Opposition figures, likely to scrutinize the transparency, execution, and effectiveness of the operation.

Acknowledging the significance of the debate, the Congress party has issued a three-day whip to all its Lok Sabha MPs, ensuring their attendance in the House.
